We have been quiet online as of late as we have been traveling, hiking, visiting and enjoying living in Italy and now Spain. Watching the kids work with Khan Academy really has Rose and I thinking about how to best support them in their learning as they balance learning on their own, asking us, and finding the line between healthy struggle and demotivation. Khan Academy is brilliant for their videos, support lessons, leveled check ins and grade level progressions. We feel like we have finally arrived at the point where Finley and Grace will ask for help when necessary and struggle on their own to figure something out. They have said a few times, “It’s not about just leveling up, I really need to understand what is going on”. We love to see when they get on a role and want to keep going like Grace today with multiplication. We all do the level up dance when they move on and as they work through grade 3 and 5 : Addition/Subtraction – Multiplication/Division – Negative Numbers – Decimals – Fractions
We can see that their foundations are strong and it gives a whole new level of understanding for elementary teachers guiding numeracy as they need to differentiate for sometimes more than 20 levels within one classroom, Kudos to you all!
We still continue to try and find the sweet spot between Khan courses: Numeracy – Grammar – Pixar – Computer programing. Their Canadian Curriculum, Brainquest, Reading, Writing and Keyboarding.
Would love any thoughts and advice on how to do so.
What is your experience with Khan Academy?
How do we create a rhythm and balance when we are always changing locations, timing, access to wifi etc?
We are struggling together, celebrating together and definitely learning together.
