I was honored to be interviewed by Zoe Weil from the Institute for Humane Education and asked about the role that formal education plays in creating the future we desire. Take a look here.

I am also working to fight the misperception that schools need to choose between deep meaningful learning or strong academic outcomes. They can live together and in fact compliment each other. It is the fact that we spend so much time on learning that is not high leverage that forces this choice. Lets all shoot for the win win, great, deep learning that matters, strong discipline expertise, and academic rigor. To do so lets not pretend that some of the things we spend time doing really matter. Lets challenge these low leverage practices and make time for truly creating global citizens with robust skills, deep character and a sense of hope for people and our planet.

What can we stop doing? As Kevin Bartlett often shares. “What’s on the To Don’t List?”
