The journey has begun. It is a scary notion to step away from the cozy confines of an organization, structured days and a 182 day school year as we have known it for our whole lives. Rose, Finley, Grace and I packed 10 bags, jumped on a plane and started a years learning journey unlike anything we have ever done. We are very simply going to shape learning that matters as a family in different locations around the world, online and in all kinds of forms that we have not even thought about as of yet. When we first asked Finley and Grace about what they wanted to learn and what they were excited and or concerned about the answers were fascinating. How will we learn math? Who will teach us? I love my inquiry units, how do we do that? So I don’t have to get out of bed every day early? I want to learn to skateboard. I want to learn more gymnastics. I want to go to Pompeii and learn about what happened in Ancient Rome and that volcano.
We will all begin to write postings, create videos, articulate how we will learn in process and we can’t wait to see where this goes. Follow our journey, comment, add and share your journey.
Learning is always and learning is everywhere. The kids have already signed up for Kahn Academy and are excited to learn at their own pace. Finley “So I can go as far as I want in math?” Yes!
We will shortly share our answers to these questions: What do you want to understand? What do you want to learn to do? What do you want to become? We are basing it all on our common language of learning from the Common Ground Collaborative.
We will connect with nature, connect with people and learn everywhere and always. This bass protecting its eggs right off our dock led to great inquiry by Finley. Here we go!
We will be following your journey of discovery this year, and we look forward to seeing you again at the end of this summer on Burridge Lk.
Thanks Shannon. The kids loved spending time. It would be great if they could get some photography tips from you!
It was great to meet up and reconnect with you. The kids all got on wonderfully and built an impressive fort together! We will be following your journey this year and hope that our paths will cross again when we are back home in Scotland.
Great to see you and hear that all is well in the motherland! See you soon for a longer catch up.
Woo hoo! Nothing better! Make the (their) world a smaller place!! You know the PNW is a great place for learning!
Brilliant! All the best in your family’s journey. I look forward to reading your posts. I love the MJ in the logo.
